Ok, just in case you didn't read the spoiler but still clicked here, I won't specifically mention it - just discuss it.
What point does this have? Well, I think it can go either way. I mean she is a pretty useless character at this point. Think about it - every single other character has some link to the mystery be it Claire's baby, Charlie's drug addicition, etc. etc. THIS character basically is watching the dog. So to kill her off, wouldn't be a huge loss. But, I just hope if they do it (and I'm inclined to think they will) I hope it is in the advancement of the Walt/Others storyline. If that happens, then her death isn't for naught and it's worth it. If that isn't the case, killing your only hot blonde is a big mistake.
You're right, she's pretty useless. I'm inclined to think that it will in some way advance the plot, otherwise it's a really shitty waste of a killing. She and Sayid are definitely getting down before then though.
Her movie opened at #1 this weekend, she's gonna be just fine. Don't cry for Maggie Grace, Argentina.
I had a feeling it would be her... didn't make sense to kill off any of the more purposeful females.
Now the question is... how does she go?

Didn't want to read the spoiler but couldn't resist after seeing G post about it here. Y'know, my first question: is this a ruse? I wouldn't be surprised if this was another trick to make us think we know what's gonna happen, especially given the creators have said they were planning to keep the "deaths of the season" extra hush hush in season 2 to keep the actors from feeling, well, shitty because they know they're gonna be off'ed. I wouldn't be surprised if this is fake. Since those fake script pages on oceanicflight815.com, I've been wary about spoilers...
But then again, after reading all your comments, you're right, she is pretty useless. But I like to think that whatever it is they do with her backstory will make her seem not so useless, especially if it is true they're gonna kill her off. The balls of the show lie in how willing they are to part with characters people actually care about. Nobody cares about Shannon, and with that said, will we care if she gets killed? I mean, isn't the point of killing off a character to make us care?? Whatever happened to the ballsy creators that wanted to kill Jack in the pilot? If anything, I'd like to see Charlie go, or maybe even Claire -- how cool would that be, to have the island drug addict being the only parent to an infant? Sounds a lot more interesting to me than killing 1.) the only hot blonde and 2.) a useless character nobody cares about to begin with. That's my 2 cents.
Boone was pretty useless too and they killed him. Of the main characters, he was the one I was least attached to... and because of that, there was little emotion involved. I felt bad for Jack and Locke for not being able to save him, but other than that, he was just a [very] pretty face.
Same is true of Shannon.
