consider my mind blown.

Quick post - I was talking to my friend Brandon who read an article where one of the writers said something along the lines of the following (sorry for the lack of specific quote/source):

We (the creators/writers) have made a conscious effort to not pin down the timeline of the events seen in the flashbacks. In fact, we've never said that some of these stories aren't set in the future, after the events on the island.

How could I never have really, seriously, thought about this idea? Sure, most of the flashbacks have to be flashbacks - Hurley, Locke, Jack, Kate, etc etc. But what if one, two, or more of these "backstories" were actually flash forwards to the future. I'd have to really go back and see if this could work in any of these cases. I could definitely see this becoming even more ambiguous in season two, or in future seasons in general, as if the writer is saying that this is possibility, but hasn't happened yet necessarily.

Just food for thought.

Got your message, Samwise. I agree, good idea that I haven't really thought too much about myself, it's true, the timeline isn't as nailed down as we all want to believe. The TV Guide article also mentions that they purposefully haven't pinned down timelines, although the Red Sox quote from season 1 is certainly a cue. I guess we all assume it's 2004 and all the flashbacks are before then, but who knows?

I'd be willing to be they just said that to fuck with people. And it seems to have worked. While I do agree it would be mad cool to have some of these set in the future, is it possible for any of them? Think about it. Most of them show why people were in Australia and why they were going back to LA from Australia. I guess I will start thinking about this now as we delve deeper into season 2.
