Goodwin = Badwin

Where to begin?

MAN-alucia has a heart after all. Who knew?

I still don't get why they call him Mr. Ecko. Did I miss something?

Could go on for hours about how perfectly they captured their deterioration... I mean, that scene on the beach when they have the argument about whether or not to stay on the beach or go to the jungle is almost identical to the one that our friends in the front half of the plane had. Analucia emerges as the Jack of the Back (copyright). But then it all goes to shit.

Analucia and Goodwin on the hill.... Never has the act of sharing apple slices been so tense. Great dialogue, incredible suspenseful, and I love that they didn't add cheesy music in the background to heighten the moment. We all knew all hell was about to break loose. It only made it that much more intense. Great scene.

So what more have we learned about the Others? Most importantly, I think it's that they're taking "good" people and claim that they're "better off" with them. And they know who these people were before they crashed. Interesting.

Boone on the radio. Completely forgot about that detail. Awesome.

Theories on the glass eye and Bible?

I don't know about the Libby theory... If there were more to her, I think this episode is where they would have laid the groundwork. Didn't see any.

And we have our definitive answers. Shannon's dead. Analucia killed her. Sawyer beatdown to follow.

All this is interesting and right on target, but a couple of my viewing buddies and I had one small problem with how they dealt with these other 48 days.

Mr. Eko took out the two Others. Analucia took out Goodwyn with a wrestling match and a stick. This doesn't really mesh with Analucia's warnings about The Others; Remember when she said to the Fuselagies how "you don't know what they're capable of" and how a gun wouldn't do any good against them? Yet from this episode we get How To Kill An Other: Step One: Hit over head with large rock.

Why this discrepancy? I know they took 9 people and I guess in general they could just be intimidating and scary as hell. But if you have a group in the forest of Analucia, Eko, Jin, Sawyer, Michael, Libby, and Cindy, it doesn't seem like they'd be so afraid of them, knowing they've taken them out before.

That was my only issue... and that the extra 4 minutes consisted of semi-cheezy strobe-motion shots building suspense leading up to nothing shocking -- just that Analucia shot Shannon after all. Other than that, a great episode, and I'm looking forward to more on the eyeball.

The hilltop scene was pretty great. I kept wishing though that a golf ball would knock one of them in the head. Just thought that would be funny.

gamgee nice....point. we didnt get any evidence that the others have "super powers" of any kind. didn't even think of that, but when considering their intense fear/aversion to the jungle, it doesn't make sense.

what we were wondering, and its kinda irrelevenat, is that why didn't the tailies think Mr. Eko was one of the others? i know i know, he was in the ocean, but come on, he was fucking crazy and carrying a huge ass war club! they're worried about the J. Crew model, meanwhile Shaft in Africa is allowed to not talk, slip suspected model some bananas and grow more and more "native" as their fears and paranoia increases, and no one ever thought, "Gee, maybe Mr. Eko is not who HE says he is?". one of the little things that bothered us.

a golf ball in that scene would have totally killed the mood, but would have been amazing! Lost seems to keep little things like that reserved for the flash backs though unfortunately.

I got out my glow sticks during those last four minutes and took a hit of ecstasy. It was awesome. Nss-nss-nss-nss.

Sam - You're right about Analucia's warnings to the Three Stooges being exaggerated. She pretty much set them up to be superhuman. They just have soft heads.

So remember when I think it was Jin and Eko (I forget... two of them from the group) found a guy dead with a pole through his torso in the jungle? That was Goodwyn? He wasn't in the same place that AnaLucia killed him. This guy was in the middle of the jungle, right? Guess it makes sense that it was Goodwyn, just wanted some clarification.

Mere - yeah he was in a totally different place, I caught this too.

Nish - Noticed that as well, I think it was just one of those things to throw us off and make us even more sure he'd be the infiltrator.

Nathan = dumbass. If you're suspected of being an Other, you better find some way to prove you were in fact on the plane. Eko gets away with it cuz, well, who wants to fuck with THAT guy??

In the episode where Michael runs off, I was wondering what Eko meant exactly when he was telling Jin about Goodwin ("one of them" or something to that effect). And the moment he called for Ana Lucia to come help Bernard, I totally forgot about it, even when he said his name later and became one of the "leaders," or as I think is more applicable, one of the council members.

One thing's for sure, even if I still don't particularly like or trust Ana Lucia, at least her detective skills and ability to read people is spot on. I'd be shitting my pants handing my knife to an Other.

Re: Others easily killed. Well, let's put the obvious out there -- Ana Lucia and Eko are people you wouldn't usually fuck with. They're the only people who have killed an Other, and Ana Lucia kills a female other. Eko kills 2 men, but look at the guy -- he's bigger than anybody other 815 survivor, and more importantly, we have no idea about the history of either of these new characters, so for all I know, Eko could be some black belt ex-green beret or something.

That being said, going back to all those episodes with Others on the other side of the island (no pun intended), remember how they were all in shock at how strong Ethan was? Well think about it -- once he was overpowered, he got beat down. And if you're still wondering about how he was able to drag Claire AND Charlie, I think it's safe to say he must've had help.

That is if Ethan is really an Other. Has that been confirmed?

And lastly, I tried to read what Eko carved onto his big ass beat stick, but I couldn't make it out. Damon said the stick would have significance -- any thoughts?

And was that woman with Eko his wife?

Oh and one thing I caught last night that stuck with me, remember how someone says, "Maybe they're watching us?" Makes sense, since that would be the best way to get their appearance, their threat level, and their names (when they introduced themselves to each other). So I dunno if we can assume the Others know about each of these people prior to the crash... yet. ;)

Question is -- do the Others absolutely need an insider in your party to get all the information, or are they only capable of seeing/hearing you when you're in the jungle? Have we ever heard the whispers on the beach or any locale not covered by foliage?

Couple random thoughts --

My impression was that the important stick was the hockey stick. Like, at some point we'll have the back story of someone who's a hockey player. But you're probably right that its Eko's custom club. I assumed he was just ticking off the days on the island.

Also, when Goodwyn talks about "good people" I assumed he meant good as in good specimens - good subjects - not like "youre such a good person, so kind and so special." I think its purposefully open to interpretation.

And I still think the whispers are dead people, not Others. I think Walt is dead, that he tried to escape the tugboat and drowned, and is speaking from the beyond, thus his whispering matching up with all the other whispers we're hearing.

Interesting, cuz I took "good people" as being both good specimens (healthy, strong, smart, agile, useful, resourceful) and good in the traditional sense (nice, friendly, helpful, encouraging, sensitive to others). But whether or not that means the people they didn't take are good or bad is a whole 'nother story. I think you're assessment is more likely, it's logical that they'd want people who're storng and capable, whatever it is they need 'em for.

And man, I didn't really think of Walt being dead. I guess part of me just hopes he's okay (I feel for Michael!). I figure if Shannon showed up in ghost form and Boone could even touch her then, Walt could still be alive and the island is just playing tricks with our eyes (or maybe Walt WILL die later on like Shannon and the ghost is some form of foreshadowing... hmmm). Interesting thought though, the thought never even crossed my mind.

Oh and I assume Cindy was a flight attendant? Not entirely sure but that's what it seemed like since she knew so much about where the plane was heading, etc. Did they say during the episode at all?

And just to clarify, the Others tried to take Eko and Mana Lucia, right? They weren't people the Others weren't interested in snatching, were they? I figure they were the only people who saved themselves from being kidnapped?

Well if you operate under the assumption that The Others are Dharma peeps gone cuckoo that were in charge of the bunkers and conducting the "experiments" that were touched upon in the Initiation video, then they could be taking people that are "good subjects" (as Sam said) for these various "experiments". Walt having ESP, would certainly make him a "good subject" for the bunker that's studying something like that (there is one, I just forget what the technical name is).

Maybe Dharma wanted human subjects all along to study/test but since that's umm ILLEGAL they had to figure out a way to bring the subjects to them... via... a... plane... crash....

Chang used the word "foliage". I'd just like to point that out.

Cindy was not only a flight attendant, but the flight attendant who served Jack an extra helping of Vodka in 1:01.

I thought Eko was carving names on his club, the names of the other survivors who had been killed thus far. That was my guess, although that doesn't seem too "significant", so who knows.
